India is the proud mother of many artistic geniuses and one of the brightest names from the contemporary art era is Mrs. Kamla Kabra. The better half of internationally acclaimed musician Pandit Brij Bhushan Kabra is not just any celeb wife but an extremely esteemed lady who is revered highly for her own brilliance and glory. Kamlaji is commonly refereed to as the torch bearer of broken glass painting and she is the first broken glass painter not only from India but also in the entire world.

Her artistic journey with broken glasses began in full bloom since the year 1984, under the able patronage of honorary Gujrati artist Shri Chandrakant Bhavsar. It was Bhavsarji who advised the lady to concentrate mostly on collage painting. Over the years , the septuagenarian painter has designed around 100 paintings that were greatly revered in the exhibitions frequented by many honorary guests from Indian cultural scene. Eminent names like Pandit Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Pandit V.G. Jog, Ustad Zakir Hussain have all been the impressed guests of Kamlaji’s spectacular broken glass exhibitions.

Kamlaji’s unique art form has been widely covered and revered by the national media, including both the print and tele outlets. A huge lot of honorary regional dailies such as Ahmedabad Mirror and Rajasthan Patrika have upheld Kamlaji’s beautiful art form. Besides, some of the best of nationally recognized English and Hindi newpapers like The Indian Express, Times of India, Dainik Bhaskar, Sambhaav and Jansatta have published articles glorifying the exotic artwork and spirit of the genius painter. Moreover, DoorDarshan has also honored her with a documentary show – a rare honor preserved for only the brightest of artists.
